As a beginner you may want to start with the simple Contact Form and modify the message on the Thank You responder.
If this is a bit tame for you, begin modifying the Contact Form. Change the colour, change the text on each line; add a new text line(s); add a drop down; choose which reponses are required or not required. Don't forget the Thank You responder function which is editable too.
